Che Guevare in a French commercial

Bloged in France, Just another posting by k_aggery Sunday December 21, 2008

While I’m spending some vacations in France, I saw this commercial in a local newspaper. It always surprises me to see how the Che Guevara’s image is used widly around the world. In this case, they used it for promoting a ski resort in the Pyrenees [mountains between Spain and France]. It does say something like: “Freedom at the end of the ski.” They also used the ski resort white symbol on what looks like the Che’s hat. None of this makes sense to me. What do you think?

About crêpes

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Saturday July 5, 2008

Finistere in Buenos Aires is a french restaurant specialized in crêpes - buckwheat and sweet crêpes. It’s very yummy and  they are filling! Crêpes are not complicated to do at all, so 2 weeks ago I went and bought all necesarry ingredients to do my own buckwheat crêpes. The result was pretty good! On the left, crêpes from the restaurant Finistere, on the right my own creation ;-) Mine was filled with ham, cheese, green onions, and smoked pork. Delicious!

De donde sos?

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Saturday April 12, 2008

Even if I consider my castellano to be fluent (by now it should be after almost 3 years in Argentina ;-)), it’s hard to get rid of the French accent, that’s something almost impossible to achieve, unless one stays abroad for a considerable amount of time, and still I’m not sure one’s accent ever goes away.. you tell me? But that’s ok though, it brings that little plus in my way of speaking. Anyway all of this to say that earlier this week, and this happened the same day, I’ve been asked 3 times “De donde sos?” (where are you from?), at the morning in a kiosko and at the night, in 2 stores. I was suprised to be asked this question that much in one day, knowing that I do shop and go to kiosko every other day, without anyone never asking me this. And the same evening, while surfing on Argentina’s Travel Guide, I found this amusing video by Gonzalo Mazar, entitled “De donde sos?”. The video’s fun to watch - you can also visit Gonzalo’s MySpace.com for more lyrics.

A bit of Zidane

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Friday October 12, 2007

This has nothing to do with Buenos Aires and/or Argentina. Rugby is a big thing at the moment, in Argentina as well, knowing that the national team, Los Pumas, is facing South Africa this coming Sunday. Having said that this morning I discovered this French commercial about Orange [multinational mobile phone operator and internet service provider]- showing Zinedine Zidane playing in a “fictious”rugby team. Now let’s all crossed our fingers and support “Les Bleus” in their attempt to reach the final tomorrow vs. England!

A balcony a bit packed

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Sunday July 8, 2007

Do balcony gardens bring another dimension to your life?! …. well one has to believe so when looking at some balconies in Buenos Aires, just like that one:

Nowadays, it is commonly accepted that balconies have been transformed into the “backyards” for thousands of apartment, condominium, and townhouse dwellers. Be adventurous. Your balcony may be just the spot.

Subway inconveniences

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Thursday July 5, 2007

Something that’s not quite happening everyday in the subway of Buenos Aires. One of the line, the D line, had a power cut, forcing passengers to get off and walk in the tunnel to reach the station. The only thing sad thing is that I wish I had been among them. Quite a fun way to start your day :D! This is what they call in Castellano “Total kilombo” –> Absolut mess!

Lights on

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Sunday June 24, 2007

Plaza San Martin in the barrio Retiro. The city’s government’s asking to reduce the use of electricity but some Plazas in the city have the lights on during day time. Contradiction? This is a picture taken from the newspaper La Nacion, mentioning this picture has been taken yesterday morning.

Rainy days….

Bloged in Just another posting by k_aggery Friday June 22, 2007

Que triste Buenos Aires en dias de lluvia…… :( How sad is Buenos Aires when it rains. I “stole” this shot from the newspaper La Nacion. This is a view of Puerto Madero under the clouds. And yep this week has been a very cloudy one, and yesterday and today the rain’s with us.
